Yulia Tymoshenko: Yanukovych’s team had no intention to increase social welfare standards

pr_a3386.jpgViktor Yanukovych’s team used the issue of increasing social standards as a campaign technique, not to improve people’s lives, claims Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

"Today it’s already obvious that nobody from Yanukovych’s team planned to increase social standards, this was simply a campaign technology," Yulia Tymoshenko said today when opening the government meeting.

"After the elections the campaign deceit starts to be exposed and people should bear this in mind when making political decisions in the future," she stressed, adding that her government is closely monitoring the payment of social benefits.

"It’s important that all social payments are maintained in the state budget and there is 100% control, and I ask that we as the government clearly fulfill our obligations to the people," Yulia Tymoshenko said.

As reported, on February 9, only 203 of the required 226 deputies voted in favor of the bill that would increase assistance to needy families to the level of the subsistence minimum (the bill was written by Party of Regions MP Mykhailo Papiyev). Deputies from the Party of Regions did not participate in the vote.
