Dictatorship of one political clan being imposed in parliament

_dsc0415.jpgThe BYuT faction in parliament has accused the Party of Regions, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn and political losers of transforming the Ukrainian parliament from a legislative body to a mechanism for usurping power and establishing a dictatorship of one political clan.

"BYuT is demanding that the head of the Verkhovna Rada, Volodymyr Lytvyn, block the cards of those members of parliament who systematically miss plenary meetings and whose cards are used by others to vote, in an attempt to stage a government overthrow," says the statement by BYuT.

The faction’s deputies believe that this way of reaching goals was set from the very beginning of the Party of Regions’ existence. "Since their first days they were a reliable support for Kuchma’s regime. Later he appointed Viktor Yanukovych as his successor, but this didn’t help him become president in 2004. Therefore, it’s logical that political corruption, bribery, blackmail and intimidation are the only way the Party of Regions can gain power and hold on to it," says the statement.

The statement also emphasizes that Viktor Yanukovych became president thanks to manipulation of electoral legislation, deception and fraud. "This same method is being used to form a coalition in parliament and new government. Therefore, nobody doubts that the new coalition will be unconstitutional."

"Those individuals who today are voting for openly unconstitutional laws will tomorrow be in an illegal coalition. Today they represent nobody but themselves. They’re like meat that’s needed for just a day. They took part in the elections as part of those political forces that promised to uphold Ukraine’s democratic principles of development, fight corruption, and form a transparent government that will follow the law – they betrayed these principles and their voters. Today we’re seeing a repeat of 2006 and 2007, when memorandums and universals were signed for seats and a coalition. And we know how this ended for those who ran into the arms of the Party of regions."

BYuT is emphasizing that every parliamentarian that votes for a law or other regulatory act that grossly violates the Constitution of Ukraine should be held personally responsible.
