Yuriy Karmazin: opposition must ensure full control over new government
"What will we be doing? Amending legislation and controlling the work of the government. We were in opposition under Kuchma, so we have the experience," Yuriy Karmazin said in an interview with UNIAN.
According to the parliamentarian, the courts, police, prosecutor’s office, SBU, financial intelligence and tax administration are all controlled by one group. "And they have control over all this too. The Accounting Chamber is theirs, the human rights commissioner is also their person. Essentially, the opposition has no controlling functions. The committee on justice is headed by a deputy from the Party of Regions, the committee on fighting organized crime is headed by a Communist, the budget committee by a Lytvyn Bloc deputy," he added.
Yuriy Karmazin also noted that the official government is massively laying off people. "They’re forcing people to write resignation letters. How can this be? There are labor laws…Only the ministers are required to leave their posts. This can’t happen - this is a coup. I just spoke with Crimea. The head of the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea, prime minister, and deputy head of the VR were forced to resign. Yanukovych personally gave the orders because he felt they didn’t support him enough. Now is payback for the elections. Yanukovych is bringing back all the horrible elements to government. This is no longer revenge, it’s super revenge," believes the head of the Motherland Defenders Party.
In his opinion, the new president of Ukraine is guided solely by revenge. "We didn’t do this. When there was a threat to his life in 2005, I went and said this from the parliamentary tribune. We behaved like Christians; Yanukovych is behaving like a barbarian. But the more they break our backs, the stronger we will be," he believes.
He also believes the new official government doesn’t have an action plan. "Until recently they were saying they know how to revive the economy, but today they’re only talking about borrowing. Tymoshenko wasn’t allowed to do this, but Yanukovych and Azarov can. They talked about how they have a program. Where’s the program? Yanukovych has been on the job for a month and has done nothing but issue four mediocre decrees."
