Yulia Tymoshenko: I demand that this fabricated case be closed (video)

pr_a2229.jpgBatkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has petitioned the court to close the criminal case against her over gas agreements signed with Russia in 2009.

"I would like to file one more petition with the judge. In accordance with the criminal procedure code, I demand that the criminal case fabricated by the Prosecutor General’s Office be closed,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.

The ex-premier stressed that this case is evidence of the government’s political persecution aimed at eliminating political competition in Ukraine. “All these accusations that you call charges don’t correspond to any letter of the law and have nothing in common with criminal action. The investigator and deputy prosecutor general knew very well that there was no crime in my actions, but they did not stop this political persecution,” she added,

Yulia Tymoshenko reiterated that while she was prime minister a typical European gas contract was signed that provides for a typical formula for setting natural gas prices. “Then why aren’t other heads of government being charged?” she asked.

Yulia Tymoshenko also pointed out that during her premiership a memorandum was also signed in October 2008 between Russia and Ukraine on cooperation in the gas sector according to which preferential conditions for establishing gas prices would be applied until 1 January 2011 had the Azarov-Yanukovych government not revoked the agreement. “We agreed to a price that is not $450 - this is propaganda black PR. The public is being deliberately misled. The price for gas, as evidenced by analysis, including done by the Prosecutor General’s Office, was $232.98 and this was half the market price at the time,” she said.
