Yulia Tymoshenko: I take full responsibility for every step we took in fighting the flu epidemic

Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko is confident that her government made very effort to battle the flu epidemic in November 2009.

"On my instructions, Tamiflu was purchase at 30% below global wholesale prices. I can honestly say that I would do the same today if necessary," Yulia Tymoshenko said during a program on Channel Ukraina.

As she pointed out, the flu epidemic demanded immediate action from her government. "The hysteria in every country demanded that we be prepared. Now they’re saying it was nothing. But when thousands of people in western and central Ukraine were succumbing to atypical pneumonia, it was scary…We couldn’t protect people’s health, especially children, and so we purchased Tamiflu. I believe we did the right thing. Tamiflu saved many lives."

"I take full responsibility for every action and would do the same today," said Yulia Tymoshenko, recalling that her government responded to warnings by the World Health Organization about the danger of the spread of flu.
