Yulia Tymoshenko challenges Judge Kirieyev

tymoshenko-6.jpgLeader of the Batkivshchyna Party Yulia Tymoshenko and her defense counsel have made a motion to dismiss judge Rodion Kirieyev who presides over the court proceedings regarding the preliminary hearing of the criminal case concerning the 2009 gas agreements.

"I have a challenge of the judge. You have no experience, no knowledge to hear the case. You were purposely transferred to the Pechersk Court by a separate decree a month ago to consider the cases that are politically motivated. I file an objection because I think you are a stooge of the Presidential Administration," said Yulia Tymoshenko..

The statement by the leader of the Batkivshchyna Party was greeted with applause by people present in the courtroom.

In his turn, defense counsel Serhiy Vlasenko justified the challenge of the judge pointing to violations made by judge Kirieyev while setting the date for the preliminary hearing, as well as with his dependency on First Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin, who combines this position with the post of a member in the High Council of Justice.

"There materials give grounds to dismiss the judge. Judge Kirieyev cannot be impartial and objective while hearing the case. I would like to note that the notice about the court hearing is out of date by a day. Besides, judge Kirieyev is a person who is dependent on a member of the High Council of Justice, on First Deputy Prosecutor General Kuzmin who personally signed the charge sheet," Vlasenko added.
