Oleksandr Plakhotnyuk: the punishment requested by the prosecution is unjustified
Oleksandr Plakhontyuk, a member of Yulia Tymoshenko’s defense team, believes the demand by the prosecution to sentence the ex-premier to seven years in prison is unreasonable.
"Given that the charges against Tymoshenko are completely unjustified, the sentence requested by the prosecution is also unjustified," Oleksandr Plakhotnyuk told journalists today.
Yulia Tymoshenko’s lawyer once again stressed that her actions while prime minister during the signing of gas contracts with Russia in 2009 did not constitute a criminal offense. Therefore, neither the charges nor the punishment demanded is justified.
"The prosecution either doesn’t want to see or can’t see that there was no crime," he added.
