BYuT: early parliamentary elections may be held on May 30

_dsc4494.jpgThe Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc is proposing to hold early elections to the Verkhovna Rada on May 30, 2010.

"Those who are in this hall today will lose a lot. But there’s no other option," Ivan Kyrylenko, the head of the BYuT parliamentary faction told journalists, commenting on the results of today’s meeting between Yulia Tymoshenko and members of her parliamentary faction.

The parliamentarian emphasized that the date of May 30 stems from the fact that the collapse of the democratic coalition was announced on March 2.

"The count began on March 2. This means that the decree may be issued before April 1 and elections will be on May 30. It’s sad, but what else can you do?" Ivan Kyrylenko said.

He also predicts that the Constitutional Court will uphold its earlier ruling that a parliamentary faction can be formed only be factions, and not individual deputies. Therefore, if the court makes such a decision, early elections to parliament may be called.

On March 9, with 235 votes, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law changing parliamentary regulations and allowing a coalition to be formed by deputies and not just factions.
