Yulia Tymoshenko: Yanukovych used the new Ukrainian KGB to steal the people’s chance to know the truth

Today’s ruling by the Kyiv Administrative Appeals Courts finding illegal the decision by the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting assigning a series of frequencies to television channels TVi and Channel 5 is the government’s latest blow to freedom of speech in Ukraine, believes Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko.

"Yanukovych, through the hands of the new Ukrainian KGB stole from Channel 5 and TVi, and from society most of all, the chance to convey the truth and know it," said Yulia Tymoshenko.

According to her, these two channels were the last islands of free speech that were not limited by so-called compromises, that provided objective and unbiased information that wasn’t coordinated with the Presidential Administration every minute.

"Especially cynical was that this blow to free speech was made by Yanukovych during his visit to Germany, where reading from the teleprompter he gave an oath to defend democratic freedoms."

As reported, today the Kyiv Administrative Appeals Court ruled unlawful the decision by the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting to provide additional frequencies to Channel 5 and TVi, thus canceling the decision by the court of first instance.
