Batkivshchyna urges all concerned citizens to protest against dictatorship

Batkivshchyna has begun an indefinite protest against the illegal arrest of Yulia Tymoshenko and is urging residents of Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine to join the peaceful rally outside the Pechersk District Court at Khreshchatyk 42a.

The protest demanding the release of Yulia Tymoshenko and other political prisoners, an end to political repression, the closing of all falsified criminal cases opened on orders from Yanukovych is indefinite.

Batkivshchyna has faith that despite tomorrow being the weekend, the people of Kyiv will demonstrate their civic position and be the first to join the protest rally. The protest will continue until the next session in the “trial” scheduled for 9 am on Monday, July 8 and into the future.

The first month and a half of the trial has shown that Yanukovych’s power structures after a year and a half of searching couldn’t find anything criminal in the activity of Yulia Tymoshenko, didn’t find a single kopeck that she put into her own pocket. The majority of witnesses for the prosecution even confirmed her innocence in their testimony. The criminal case has crumbled into dust and Yanukovych gave the command to arrest Yulia Tymoshenko because of his powerlessness.

But Yulia Tymoshenko is not his goal and she is not the one that needs protection. Denying the leader of the opposition her freedom is only an instrument, it is Yanukovych’s important step in establishing an authoritarian regime in Ukraine, a step towards the complete and lifelong occupation of Ukraine by his criminal oligarch clan.

Whether he is able to carry out this plans depends on society, and our joint efforts. Batkivshchyna urges everyone who doesn’t want dictatorship and authoritarianism in Ukraine to join the protest.
