Kireyev gives Yulia Tymoshenko until Sept. 27 to prepare for debates

img_2116.jpgJudge Rodion Kireyev of the Pechersk District Court has moved the court debates scheduled to begin today until 3 pm on September 27 after former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko complained that the defense wasn’t given enough time to prepare.

“There was absolutely not enough time. My communication with my lawyers was reduced to nearly zero. There wasn’t enough time to prepare the strategy and concept of our defense. I am not familiar with the last volumes of the criminal case. We will debate as we can, but we’ve been placed on unequal terms with the prosecution. We have come to debate without preparation,” Yulia Tymoshenko said at the start of today’s court session.

In light of the situation, the judge adjourned the proceedings. “Given the statements of the defense regarding insufficient time to prepare for court debates and in order to ensure the defendant’s right to defense, the court is giving additional time to prepare for debates until September 27, 2011,” he said.
