Main judge of the opposition is the Ukrainian voter

7.jpgPeople’s deputy and leader of the Christian Democratic Union Volodymyr Stretovych believes that only the Ukrainian people can assess the opposition’s effectiveness.

"Our main referees and judges are the voters. We must appeal to them. We can’t get through to those in power because they’re doing their own thing. Some members of the opposition will say that they’re holier than the Pope, while we’re going to appeal to the voters. The voters will judge," Volodymyr Stretovych said on Channel 5.

He recalled that nearly 12 million people voted for Yulia Tymoshenko and that they support their candidate’s work in the opposition.

"The people will decide who’s right in the situation: the government that adopts unpopular but necessary decisions, or the opposition that will successfully criticize and offer its own version. This is a totally normal process. There’s isn’t a politician who hasn’t been in opposition, and there isn’t a politician who doesn’t want to return to power from the opposition," he said.

The parliamentarian doesn’t rule out that local elections will be held in autumn 2010, and that early parliamentary elections will be held next year. "We need to utilize this time as best as possible to show whose ideas were right and who is reliable," Volodymyr Stretovych emphasized.
