pr_a8682.jpgThe uniting congress of the Batkivshchyna Party has unanimously supported the nomination of Yulia Tymoshenko as candidate for president in the 2015 elections.

"We, the participants of the uniting congress of Batkivshchyna that have gathered on St. Michael’s Square in Kyiv on 15 June 2013, demand the immediate release of the leader of the opposition and head of the Batkivshchyna Party Yulia Tymoshenko, and her full political and legal rehabilitation. We support the nomination of Yulia Tymoshenko as candidate for president in the 2015 elections," says the resolution adopted today.

The participants of the congress urged all opposition factions in parliament to vote for European integration laws and promote the implementation of all the criteria necessary for the signing of the association agreement with the European Union, creation of a free trade zone and introduction of visa-free travel for citizens of Ukraine.

"We are urging all opposition political forces to unite, join efforts and coordinate their actions in the battle with the anti-Ukrainian government and return Ukraine to a democratic path of development," reads the resolution.

In his speech, former political prisoner ex-Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko said that the main goal for the united opposition is the release of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"It is the most difficult. Sorry for using this word, but it is the most difficult. If the Batkivshchyna congress nominated Yulia Tymoshenko for president, this doesn’t mean that someone else will also be nominated. If you nominated Yulia Tymoshenko then get her released. Use all your efforts to secure her release. This is the number one objective if you’re going to talk about elections," said Yuriy Lutsenko.
