The regime is expanding the range of state agencies involved in political repression

"On Friday (November 4), employees of the Main Investigative Department of the Tax Militia of the State Tax Service of Ukraine informed Yulia Tymoshenko that they have reopened investigations in four criminal cases involving her. They handed her copies of four orders opening criminal cases – two from 2001 and two from January 2003," Serhiy Vlasenko said at a press conference today.

According to him, all four case concern the activities of United Energy Systems of Ukraine in 1996-1997. "I won’t even touch on the fact that the time in which legal proceedings can be initiated in these cases expired long ago and when opening cases under criminal procedure law this is the first question the prosecutor or investigator should have addressed," he said.

Serhiy Vlasenko pointed out that all these "reincarnated" cases were opened in 2001 ahead of the 2002 parliamentary elections. "Time has moved on, but the technologies haven’t changed. 'Yulia Tymoshenko must be removed from the political arena before elections' - this was necessary in 2002 and is necessary now," he believes.

"They are opening more and more absurd and cynical cases against Yulia Tymoshenko so that she can’t run in the parliamentary elections and engage in political activities, participate in the electoral process. You can accuse her of space piracy and the courts will consider this matter seriously…Such audacity, cynicism and immorality on the part of investigative bodies is due to their understanding that the destroyed Ukrainian justice system can swallow anything once they get an order and find an immoral personal like Kireyev, who will sweat and tremble but will ready the papers written for him by the president’s administration," added Oleksandr Turchynov, the first deputy head of the Batkivshchyna Party.
