Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has called the detention of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili a dirty act of repression against political opponents.
“I want to say that this is political repression, a crackdown on opponents, and that there is no justice in these courts and power structures. We must defend our freedom and democracy, and of course Mikheil Saakashvili, who is being treated so brutally,” Yulia Tymoshenko said outside the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv, where a hearing is being held for the court to rule on pretrial restrictions for Mikheil Saakashvili.
“I feel I must be with those who are being repressed by the authorities,” the politician stressed.
When asked by journalists why Mikheil Saakashvili was arrested, Yulia Tymoshenko stressed that “the reason is obvious – he is against those in power and he is against corruption.”
“And because he stands for democracy and real changes in the country,” the Batkivshchyna Party leader said.
