Batkivshchyna faction leader Yulia Tymoshenko called on the Verkhovna Rada to prolong the moratorium on the sale of agricultural land for a minimum of 5 years, and said that the Batkivshchyna team would support this vote because it protects Ukraine and Ukrainian agricultural land.

“If we want to protect the independence of our state, its territorial integrity and future, then we are obliged to vote for the prolongation of the moratorium on the sale of agricultural land for a minimum of 5 years. The Batkivshchyna faction will vote for the extension of the moratorium to protect Ukraine and Ukrainian agricultural land,” Yulia Tymoshenko said while addressing the parliament.

According to the deputy, agricultural land can not be sold at the present time while there is “chaos, corruption and raids in the country, when farming has been destroyed and the mafia wants to get its hands on every square centimeter of agricultural land.”

“In the last 6 months of President Petro Poroshenko’s term they want to legalize millions of hectares of agricultural land, which they have divided up among several families in Ukraine. And it is not a secret that the president’s family has up to one million hectares of agricultural land, which in one way or another was obtained through unfair purchasing procedures,” she said.

According to Yulia Tymoshenko, if parliament does not prolong the moratorium on the sale of agricultural land, it will be “the greatest act of treason in modern, independent and sovereign Ukraine,” and “Ukrainian farmers and villagers will be deprived of a good that will never be restored.”

The politician stressed that the new government in Ukraine after the presidential election will investigate the illegal sale of Ukrainian agricultural land, and will solve this issue in favor of Ukrainian farmers.

“The Batkivshchyna team after the presidential election will make every effort to ensure that each hectare of land belongs, is cultivated by and brings profit to Ukrainians,” concluded the head of the Batkivshchyna faction.
