Today I expressed my condolences and support to French Ambassador Isabelle Dumont over the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral.
It is terrible to see such a symbol of world culture engulfed in flames. It makes you think about the fragility and vulnerability of our civilization…
I was happy to hear that the damage was not as critical as it could have been. The ambassador said that the main thing is that the sanctuary withstood the fire and two towers were preserved. Everything will be restored.
I hope that the restoration work will be completed as soon as possible so that many more generations from different countries will be able to admire the cathedral that Victor Hugo described so majestically in his novel.
