In honor of Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation and Day of Victory over Nazism…

11:32 08.05.2019

May 8 and 9 are special days for Ukraine…

The day of the end of World War II in Europe, Victory Day, Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation…

People by nature want the world to be clear and contrasting. What’s black is black, what’s white is white. A friend is a friend, an enemy is an enemy. Without shades. Because it’s easier that way.

But there haven’t been many unambiguous events in our history. Our chronicles are too complicated, our land covered in too much blood. Brother against brother, son against father. We’ve had it many ways…

I don’t want to think only about sad things today, but we must remember. We must remember all those who gave their lives for Ukraine – for its freedom, for the honor and dignity of its people, for the right to be the masters of our own land. For the victory by the civilized world against Nazism. We must remember for the living, for ourselves, for the future.

The main goal for Ukraine and Ukrainians today should be reconciliation and unity.

We can elect a new President and write the best program for development, but we will not be happy and successful without unity.

We are weak and vulnerable as long as we argue and are divided. Nobody can overcome us if we are united.

We have friends and partners. We have enemies and those who wish us harm – many of them, and they will not “vanish like dew in the sun.” Under these circumstances we have no right to try to prove who loves Ukraine more. Only our unity can protect us.

On these days let us also remember all the fallen and thank all those heroically defending our homeland from the enemy.

Let us be united for Ukraine, for ourselves, for our common victory!

In memory of our Heroes. Glory to Ukraine…
