Law on reintegration of Donbas was removed due to shadow agreements that bring officials corrupt profits

Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko says the current government is not interested in passing a law on occupied Donbas and removed it from the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada because secret agreements have been made that are bringing those in the highest echelons of power corrupt money through the continuation of the war.

“The draft law on the occupied territories of Donbas was removed from the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada. This means they will continue to call the war an ATO and occupied territories ones that are temporarily under the control of another country. Shadow backroom deals have been made that are keeping the war in Ukraine going,” Yulia Tymoshenko said on the program “Svoboda Slova” on channel ICTV.

According to the politician, all of Ukrainian society is waiting for the war to end and the day when “every city and village of Ukraine will stop burying its heroes.” However, she believes this will not happen as long as “the war is being used to cover up the collapse in the state.”

“Tens of thousands of people are dying, the war is in full swing, the world is talking about large operations that could be carried out against Ukraine, and yet today we removed a bill that calls things what they are,” she said, indignantly.

The parliamentarian also added that because of the failure by the Verkhovna Rada to pass a law ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty in Donbas that legally defines the status of these territories, the international community cannot properly respond to events in Ukraine and this in turn “changes the international status of everything happening in Ukraine.”

“We ourselves have not recognized the war in East Ukraine a war. Under such circumstances, cases concerning the occupation and return of our territories, the aggression against Ukraine and killing of our people can not be lodged in international courts,” she said.

Yulia Tymoshenko also added that the failure to pass this law shows that “the war is being used to cover up corruption, trade on blood, and all the worst that is happening in our state.”

The politician also stressed that Batkivshchyna repeatedly draws attention to three fundamental things that could end the war in Ukraine. The first is to clearly recognize the status of what is happening in East Ukraine and “go to the international courts with real complaints that can be considered.”

“Only then will the criminals who started this war and committed crimes against humanity be brought to justice on the international level,” the parliamentarian said.

The head of the Batkivshchyna Party also added that the Minsk agreements have not brought the expected results and that Ukraine should return to the Budapest format of negotiations that guaranteed Ukraine peace and the integrity of its borders.

“The Minsk agreements have not solved the problem, and they were signed by leaders of criminal gangs. We should, without touching the Minsk agreements, find a second parallel route to solving this problem,” she said.

Yulia Tymoshenko said the presidents of the United States, Russia, Ukraine, British prime minister, representatives of the EU and other countries that signed on the moment Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons should sit down at the negotiating table.

“The issue of negotiations should be addressed using political and diplomatic art,” the politician said.

The head of the Batkivshchyna faction also drew attention to the fact that the government that will replace the current one will be obligated to “perform an inventory of all Ukrainian top officials who earned billions on blood and war, and immediately bring them to justice.”

“As long as smuggling, trafficking of drugs and people remain big business, as long as they are profiting from the shadow sale of coal, we won’t live to see this war end,” Yulia Tymoshenko cautioned.
