Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko believes the current government’s reforms are criminal and unprofessional, in particular medical and pension reform, which will destroy the Ukrainian nation; therefore, Ukraine needs a fundamentally new strategy of development.
“Everything they are calling reform today is a direct threat to the state of Ukraine and will destroy the Ukrainian nation. You can’t call this anything but the genocide of Ukrainians,” Yulia Tymoshenko said on the program “Svoboda Slova” on channel ICTV.
According to the politician, the government’s reforms, in particular of the healthcare and pension systems, will negatively affect the welfare of Ukrainian citizens.
“It is no accident that their pension reform will reduce the rate of pension calculations by 30% for all pensioners. Ukrainians are simply being driving into a corner, from which there is no way out,” she explained.
The politician also emphasized that the population cannot afford food and services, prices for which are much higher than in a number of EU countries.
“Meanwhile, wages and pensions in Ukraine are 16 times lower than in developed European countries. And prices for drugs are higher than in the richest countries in the world,” she said indignantly, adding that a recent UN report puts 60% of Ukrainians living below the poverty line.
The parliamentarian also said it was no accident that during these three years of so-called reforms “wages and pensions have fallen 2-3 times in real dollar terms.”
Yulia Tymoshenko also added that reform of the healthcare system in its present form is unacceptable, because it will result in more than 80% of Ukrainians not being able to afford medical services. According to the politician, firstly, the proposed reform does not provide for guaranteed health insurance; secondly, the reform will introduce treatment protocols at European prices without the introduction of health insurance for the population; thirdly, local budgets will be deprived of funding for medicine; and fourthly, the population will not have access to guaranteed free medical care.
“In the proposed bill the list of cases where free medical care will be provided was narrowed down in such a way that even those Ukrainians with an urgent medical situation will not be able to receive treatment. Only 5-10% of Ukrainians will be able to afford such medical care,” she said.
Yulia Tymoshenko believes a fundamentally new strategy of Ukraine’s development is needed to prevent the government’s plans for the destruction of the Ukrainian nation.
“I am convinced they are deliberately reducing the population of Ukraine. Therefore, either we oppose their plans with all opposition forces, or we will be eliminated. That is why a fundamentally different strategy of development is needed, one that will replace this strategy of destruction with a strategy of prosperity and an action plan with 10 points that can give us a fundamentally new life,” concluded the Batkivshchyna leader.
