Batkivshchyna leader Yulia Tymoshenko believes that scandalous arrest of MP Ihor Mosiychuk was an attempt to divert public attention from two important issues – the restructuring of external debt and the report by the parliament committee on tariffs.
“There is a strategy that always works: when you want to cover up important news, you throw at people an even bigger story that at first glace seems a priority for society,” Yulia Tymoshenko said today on Shuster Live.
The Batkivshchyna leader does not think it was a coincidence that the MP was arrested after parliament adopted three bills and a resolution on an unfavorable debt restructuring agreement.
In her opinion, this was also done to divert public attention from the report of the parliamentary working group on tariffs.
“They had to prolong this explosion with Mosiychuk to make a smoke screen for today’s parliamentary discussion of the working group report. The parliamentary working group included members of all factions and worked for many months. Their report was ready four months ago, but it took that long to be put on the parliament agenda for debate,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.
Commenting on the MP’s arrest, the Batkivshchyna leader said despite the full support in parliament for Mosiychuk’s arrest, the vote took place in violation of parliamentary procedures. “Parliamentary regulations outline a strict procedure that must be followed. There is one procedure for those who were being stripped of their immunity to give them time to flee the country and take all their money with them and another for everyone else. This means that this is not an ordinary case and is being done for a reason,” she said.
“Once people saw the videos, there was no way they couldn’t vote to strip him of his immunity. It was an emotional thing. Nobody expected it,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.
