Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko says Ukraine’s main strategic foreign policy priority is NATO and the EU, and the actions of the new President of Ukraine will be aimed at implementation of the appropriate course.
“Our security is only in NATO. The only alternative for us is either NATO or an endless ATO. That is why on the first day of the new president’s work all foreign policy will be aimed towards this strategic goal. We must not just become members of NATO, we must become members of NATO immediately!” Yulia Tymoshenko said during the Batkivshchyna Party Congress.
According to the politician, NATO documents stipulate that in the case of military aggression against one of the member states, all others should stand for the defense of the country.
“If we were NATO members, we would not have a war, devastation, or annexed territories,” she said.
The Head of the Batkivshchyna Party also pointed to the need to increase financing of the defense sector of Ukraine.
“NATO spends one trillion dollars a year on the military defense of its member states. The Russian Federation, which is waging war against us, spends $66 billion a year on its army, and Ukraine spends 22 times less than the aggressor country!” she explained.
