New heads of the GPU and SBU should be appointed – otherwise corrupt officials will enter the new VRU

Batkivshchyna faction leader Yulia Tymoshenko has appealed to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to replace the heads of the GPU and SBU, and appealed to the leadership of the parliament to urgently consider the issue of their dismissal and new appointments.

“I appeal to the representative of the President of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada to ask the President to nominate candidates for the posts of heads of the GPU and the SBU, and I appeal to the head of the Verkhovna Rada to suspend the consideration of the Electoral Code and to hold a vote on the appointment of new security officials,” Yulia Tymoshenko said during today’s meeting of the conciliation council of faction leaders and chairmen of parliamentary committees.

According to the politician, the new President of Ukraine has the constitutional right to dismiss and appoint the heads of the GPU and the SBU, but “behind the scenes of the parliament and Ukrainian politics there is a game going on that is difficult to explain” and the constitutional right of the new president remains unfulfilled. In her opinion, such appointments should take place immediately in order to “investigate corruption and abuse of financial flows and the work of state corporations” by the prior authorities.

“The people’s expectations of punishing the crimes committed by the country’s corrupt top leadership that ruled before the presidential election has reached the absurd,” she said.

The parliamentarian stressed that if this is not done, it will mean that “there is a conspiracy to leave the old heads of the GPU and SBU to cover up the corruption that has taken place over the past 5 years.”

“If high level investigations are not started right now and society is not shown who is involved in the theft of finance, property and land in Ukraine, this will mean that in the extraordinary parliamentary elections all these corrupt people will enter parliament,” Yulia Tymoshenko cautioned.
