Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko attended the Christmas liturgy at St. Sophia Cathedral and congratulated Ukrainians on the official receipt of the Tomos granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“The fact that the Tomos was received on Christmas Eve is a symbol, a sign that the Lord blessed Ukraine and Ukrainians to have victory and a peaceful life. Today all Ukrainians thank the Lord for helping us withstand the struggle for faith, the truth and Ukraine. Good always triumphs! May the Lord help our country and all of us. I have faith that everything will be good and that the Lord will always protect Ukraine,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.
The liturgy was performed by Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epifaniy, who spoke of the historical importance of the service that not only marked the birth of Jesus but also the revival of the single local Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“Today, while celebrating the birth of Jesus, we rejoice in the birth of the single local Ukrainian Orthodox Church recognized by the Ecumenical Mother Church,” Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epifaniy said during the Christmas liturgy.
