Batkivshchyna Party Leader Yulia Tymoshenko says that if elected President she will implement the New Course for Ukraine, a strategic program that will make science and education priorities and support the country’s intellectual potential.
“Ukraine has some of the greatest intellectual potential in the world. If we provide science, education and entrepreneurship with resources and eliminate corruption, in a few years we will have a country that everyone else will envy,” Yulia Tymoshenko said during a campaign rally in Mykolayiv.
According to the politician, leading countries build their economies based on intellect and attract smart and active people from other countries, including Ukraine. She quoted Foreign Minister Klimkin, who said that every year since 2016 some one million people have been leaving the country to live and work abroad, where wages are higher.
“Wages and living standards in Poland are 3.5 times higher than in Ukraine, in Germany they are 16 times higher. Either in the next few years we will raise to the level in Europe and become competitive for our youth, or we will have no people left in Ukraine. We need to stop being a provide of raw materials, including in the intellectual sector,” said the presidential candidate.
Yulia Tymoshenko told the audience that the New Course for Ukraine aims to change the state of affairs by making education and science the main priority of the country’s development.
“Education and science will be fully financed, put on firm feet, and we will double and triple our national GDP. Our task is to never trade raw materials again, and in 3 years we will change the situation with the correct state policy,” she stressed.
Yulia Tymoshenko thanked the educators of the Mykolayiv region for working as volunteers in extremely difficult conditions and receiving a meager salary for educating highly educated people. The politician promised that as President she would provide all educators with the appropriate level of financing and other support.
“Educators are the potential that in a few years can lift us to the level of the richest countries in Europe. And Ukraine will become strong and successful in a few years because it will stop being sucking of its raw materials and we will use our products to our full advantage,” she added.
