Batkivshchyna Party Leader Yulia Tymoshenko says the new government should investigate corruption by the team of the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and his environment, and this requires replacing the current Prosecutor General.
“The Prosecutor General has to go, because he is a roof and a veil for all the large-scale corruption that has taken place in the last 5 years. Otherwise, there will be no investigations and responsibility for corruption, which was the main activity of the former government,” Yulia Tymoshenko said on the program “Freedom of Speech” on channel ICTV.
According to the politician, the new Head of State should submit to the Verkhovna Rada his proposal for a new Prosecutor General, which is his constitutional right. However, Yulia Tymoshenko said that because of the blocking of consideration of the dismissal of the current Prosecutor General and the appointment of a new one by the parliament, the President can have the Main Control and Revision Office investigate corruption by Poroshenko and his team.
“I advise the new President to use the control and revision service as much as possible and start an audit of what was done over the past 5 years,” she said, adding that the results of the investigation can be used by the new Prosecutor General.
Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized that if such steps are not taken immediately, there is a risk that “a new stage of revenge will begin, which can not be allowed.”
“If an investigation is not started now, they will enter the new parliament under the guise of patriotism, all while today Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Therefore, we must act immediately and we are ready to help in this,” Yulia Tymoshenko concluded.
