Batkivshchyna Party Leader Yulia Tymoshenko says the newly elected President, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the next Prime Minister have all the necessary powers to reduce tariffs for the population.
“Both the president and the prime minister can, if they have the political will, lower tariffs for gas, heat and hot water,” Yulia Tymoshenko said on Ukrainian Radio.
According to the politician, the President can use his constitutional power to veto decisions of the Groysman government, according to which the unjustified increase in gas prices happened, as well as appoint two members of the NERC.
“We gave the President draft resolutions on vetoing the decisions of the Groysman government and a draft decree on the appointment of his members of NERC,” the parliamentarian said, and added: “We hoped that the President would act immediately, but his team said that it would not reduce tariffs.”
Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized that the Batkivshchyna team will advise the president to reduce tariffs.
“At least because prices on European exchanges fell more than half from $351 dollars to $117 per thousand cubic meters. Yet they continue to sell gas to our people at $320 per thousand cubic meters,” she explained.
Yulia Tymoshenko explained that after the parliamentary elections, the newly elected Prime Minister can reduce gas prices by abolishing the decisions of the Groysman government.
“We have to promptly pass resolutions that will set the price of gas at least twice as low. This is the first thing that can be done immediately,” said Yulia Tymoshenko.
