Batkivshchyna faction leader Yulia Tymoshenko says that the Steinmeier Formula is wrong for Ukraine because it will result in the loss of the country’s unity and sovereignty and the transformation of Ukraine into a colony of the Russian Federation. Therefore, parliament must unite to develop a “Ukraine formula” that will protect Ukraine’s national interests.
“We must remove some of the diplomatic burden from the President, and in parliament develop a ‘Ukraine Formula’ for resolving the war in the East, returning occupied territories to Ukraine, and returning peace,” Yulia Tymoshenko said during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada.
According to the politician, the implementation of the Steinmeier Formula, which defines the order of entry into force of the law on the special status of the occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts (ORDLO), is unacceptable for Ukraine. Holding elections in these territories without their demilitarization, without the withdrawal of Russian troops, without the restoration of Ukrainian control over the Ukrainian-Russian border, and without the restoration of the laws and Constitution of Ukraine betrays the national interests of Ukraine and is unacceptable.
“The Steinmeier Formula in the diplomatic world is understood to mean first elections and then ‘we’ll see how it goes.’ But a ‘Ukraine Formula’ calls for complete demilitarization, renewal of the Russian-Ukrainian border and control of Ukraine over this territory first, and then elections. That’s the difference,” she said.
Yulia Tymoshenko warned that the proposed Steinmeier Formula will allow elections to be held in the ORDLO, where “they will vote with guns, without the people and without Ukraine.” In her opinion, Ukraine risks “the return of Transnistria to Ukraine, where decisions will be made about the life of Ukraine under the control of the Russian Federation.”
“And then during the next parliamentary or presidential elections 5.5 million forged ballots will change all proportions within Ukraine, and we will again become a colony of the Russian Federation,” she warned.
The politician called for parliamentary unity to prevent such an unacceptable scenario for Ukraine.
“No matter which parties or groups we belong to, our visions and understandings, we need to be a united team in this fight for the occupied territories,” she urged her fellow parliamentarians.
