Batkivshchyna Party Leader Yulia Tymoshenko says that if elected President her government will initiate an investigation into high-level corruption in the defense sector by President Petro Poroshenko and his corrupt environment.
“Today those in power are profiting on the war. Veterans, soldiers on the front and the international community are asking: when will those who immorally laundered the army’s money to their offshore accounts be brought to justice? Therefore, after the election of a new President, everyone involved in corruption will be prosecuted and everything they took from the country will be returned,” Yulia Tymoshenko said at a campaign rally in Ochakiv, Mykolayiv region.
According to the politician, high-level corruption in the defense sector is blocking the possibility of ending the war in Ukraine since it is advantageous for the current authorities. As a result, the new government, in addition to bringing corrupt officials to criminal responsibility, will initiate international negotiations on the basis of the guarantees of the Budapest memorandum to end the war and achieve a lasting peace.
“The only road to peace is through the fulfill of the guarantees of the Budapest memorandum. Therefore, the first step of the new President should be to immediately gather at the negotiating table the presidents and prime ministers of the guarantor countries and start a genuine negotiation process that will bring peace to Donbas and return occupied territories,” she said.
The presidential candidate added that immediately after her election victory, she will with the participation of the guarantor countries create a powerful international Donbas revival and development fund to restore the destroyed territories and rebuild people’s lives.
“Our team is in talks regarding the creation of an International Donbas Development Fund, and such a fund will exist in Ukraine,” she said.
Yulia Tymoshenko also said that the new President will returned occupied Crimea, but that this will take some time. She sees the reunification of Germany as an example of how to return Crimea and “build a successful and prosperous country.”
“By implementing the program ‘New Course for Ukraine,’ we will lift Ukraine, show a high class of life, and then the ‘Crimean Wall’ will collapse. Crimea was, is and will be Ukrainian,” said the politician.
The presidential candidate appealed to the audience to be wise, prudent and make the right choice for the development and restoration of the country, as well as for the end of the war and the establishment of a lasting peace in Ukraine.
“Fight! Because one presidential candidate will not be able to overcome the black mafia, and therefore we need to unite. Be strong and everything will be fine!” concluded the Head of the Batkivshchyna Party.
