Batkivshchyna faction head Yulia Tymoshenko is urging deputies of the Verkhovna Rada to support Ukrainian agrarians by abolishing the new tax rules and reinstating preferential VAT.

“We introduced bill №7403-2 that will return everything agrarians should have. This bill was agreed with agrarians and has the full support of a majority of people’s deputies from opposition parties,” Yulia Tymoshenko said during a briefing after the coordinating council of faction and parliamentary committee heads.

The parliamentarian recalled that in 2016 new tax rules took away many benefits from agrarians.

“Agrarians had 10 billion hryvnias taken away from them that could have been used for sowing and to purchase machinery for processing raw materials,” she said.

Yulia Tymoshenko also said agrarian viches were recently held in a number of regions of Ukraine during which agrarians appealed to the president, the government and the Verkhovna Rada to “immediately stop the robbery.”

“In 11 oblasts agrarians adopted appeals to the president, prime minister and the Verkhovna Rada to return the previous tax system,” the parliamentarian said.

Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized that the Batkivshchyna faction also supports №5223 against the shadow dispossession of agricultural land. According to the Batkivshchyna faction leader, despite the fact that last year, under pressure by farmers and the Batkivshchyna faction, the Ukrainian parliament voted to prolong the moratorium on the sale of farmland, the current government has not given up its intentions and is trying to realize it through perpetual lease.

“The Batkivshchyna team wants to stop the illegal appropriation of land by the president and his inner circle. Therefore, we have introduced bill №5223, which stops a large fraudulent scheme being used by senior state officials,” she said.

The politician explained that land is already being sold and that “tens of thousands of perpetual lease agreements” have been concluded.

“The agreements allow land to be leased for 100-200 years. The people who own the land are being paid the so-called value of the land, but it is much lower than market value. 80 thousand perpetual lease agreements are being planned,” she warned.

Yulia Tymoshenko said that such actions by the president and his inner circle are unacceptable, and that under the new government all farmland will be to be inventoried and returned to its legal owners.

“President Poroshenko’s term is almost over. There will have to be an audit and inventory of all farmland, and all the farmland acquired illegally through the perpetual lease procedure will be returned to the people of Ukraine from whom you bought this land for nothing,” the parliament said to the president.
