Yulia Tymoshenko, presidential candidate and Batkivshchyna Party Leader, met with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, Ambassador Hugues Mingarelli.
“I would like you to know about the problems we are encountering in this election campaign – large-scale violations and falsifications. There were two revolutions in Ukraine for freedom, democracy and European values. We very much hoped that dishonest elections would be put to an end, but what is happening is incompatible with democracy,” the Batkivshchyna Leader said.
She told the EU Ambassador about the methods of falsification being used by the team of President Petro Poroshenko. They include use of administrative resources, giving out special payments from the state budget on the eve of the vote (one-time supplements to pensioners, monetization of subsidies, special payments, etc.), direct bribery of voters, registration of so-called technical candidates, candidates with similar names to other candidates, commissioned sociological research, censorship and intimidation of members of the Batkivshchyna Party, bias by the Central Election Commission where there is a pro-presidential majority of members, legalization of bribery of voters (distribution of money), disproportional distribution of leadership positions in district election commissions, use of law enforcement bodies, and so forth.
“These dirty methods are completely distorting the will of the people of Ukraine. And this is unacceptable,” Yulia Tymoshenko concluded.
Ambassador Hugues Mingarelli stressed that the elections in Ukraine should be honest and free and take place in accordance with OSCE standards.
