Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko met with President of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) Derek Mitchell during a working visit to the United States.
The politician spoke about the security situation, in particular the escalation of the conflict with Russia, as well as the political and socio-economic situation in Ukraine. The parties stressed the urgent need for Russia to release the sailors and ships it seized and called for increased sanctions against the aggressor country.
They also discussed preparations for the presidential election next year in Ukraine. The president of NDI stressed the importance that the elections take place in accordance with international democratic standards and free of influence.
Yulia Tymoshenko thanked the National Democratic Institute for its long support of Ukraine on the path to democratic reforms and stressed that Ukraine seeks to build closer relations with the West. This includes training of members of political parties and young activists, involving women in political activities and assisting civil society.
